  • About the event

”A zine (an abbreviation of fanzine or magazine) is most commonly a handmade, photocopied (or otherwise cheaply produced) small circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images.”

So a zinefest brings together makers of zines to display and sell their work – zine prices tend to cover the cost of production and are a labour of love, not a for-profit business.

Speak Out's first annual Zine Fest is a celebration of small press and independent publishers. Our mission is to showcase the culture and accessibility of zine-making through workshops, events, and an annual festival that welcomes artists and creators to share their stories, knowledge, and love of zines.

    Why should you sponsor?

To embody the spirit of community that zines foster, we're seeking out a select group of stores and organizations to back us through donations, as well as sponsers to back us through non-monetary means. This model of valuing human connection over US currency is one that runs through the very core of the zine fest.

    Parker McCranels

My name is Parker McCranels and I am the founder of the non-profit organization Speak Out, which I created in hopes of using the arts to bring about positive change on both a local and global scale.

Growing up, I was surrounded by a family with a love for surfing, but despite a hard push to dedicate myself to athletic pursuits, I was drawn to the arts. Anything creative, from drawing to singing to writing, caught my eye and I became enthralled with the powerful messages words and images could convey. Despite the harsh reality of the struggling world around me, I found an escape in the form of the arts and now, only strive to bring that relief to others.
