About the event
Welcome to the 2017 Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Explorer Competition (S.A.L.E.E.C.). This event is organized by the Explorer Post 181 Advisor Association and each year Explorers from various law enforcement agencies in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas come to Marana, AZ to compete in this event. The Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Explorer Competition is designed to be very demanding on the physical and mental capabilities of each Explorer. Events are designed to test the strengths and limitations of a person's intelligence, personality, demeanor, professionalism, and physical abilities, as well as dedication and conviction to the Explorer Program. Explorers are given the opportunity to test their skills in real life situations including: crime scene investigation, crisis negotiations, domestic disturbance, downed officer rescue, use of force, and court room testimony to name a few.
Law Enforcement Exploring is a career based program that is chartered through Learning for Life and the Boy Scouts of America and is open to young men and women age 15-20 who seek to explorer a career in the law enforcement field. These programs teach valuable skills such as integrity, dedication, honesty, leadership, teamwork and community service that the youth may take with them as they progress throughout life.

The Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Explorer Competition is designed test each Explorer in the following areas:
Leadership/ Team Skills
Each Explorer team must negotiate a number of scenarios designed to challenge the team unity and decision making.
Explorers will compete in rigorous events to include an obstacle course, team relay race and team tug-o-war.
Explorers must demonstrate their knowledge in laws and regulations and apply that knowledge to scenario events.
Law Enforcement Skills
Explorers are given scenarios in which they must utilize their knowledge of law enforcement skills and concepts to accomplish a variety of tasks .
