2017 Middle School Model UN Conference (MSMUN),

Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, United States Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, United States

  • About the event

    On December 2, over 600 middle school students in the Greater Boston area will have the unique opportunity to step into the role of delegates and negotiate complex global issues in a Model UN simulation. After weeks of researching and writing about the country they will represent, students will engage on a level playing field with peers from urban, suburban, rural, public, private, charter, and homeschool backgrounds. This unique opportunity leaves students inspired to be civic leaders and equipped with the skills to:

    • Collaborate to overcome differences and achieve goals;
    • Communicate through discourse and negotiation;
    • Problem solve by considering multiple perspectives; and
    • Think critically about complex, contemporary global challenges.

    During the conference, students will be immersed in committee rooms (such as the Security Council, FAO, and UNICEF) as they develop solutions to an important global issue. Global topics will include nuclear disarmament, food security, climate change, clean water, and child refugees.

    With your support, students will have an experiential opportunity to engage in international matters, increase their confidence in public speaking, and be inspired to be leaders in their school, community, and life.

    Let's build the next generation of civic leaders together.

    Why should you sponsor?

    Picture the confidence, desire, and passion for making a difference that a student would develop if given the opportunity to strategize with others how to solve global issues. Imagine the doors that can open for teenagers who are challenged to consider perspectives other than their own.

    Your support for the Middle School Model UN Conference can provide over 600 students in the Greater Boston area with exactly that.

    Model UN is a unique program that educates youth about current global issues, promotes civic leadership, and empowers students with 21st century skills. During Model UN, global affairs come alive for students as they role-play international diplomats and negotiate solutions to complex global issues from diverse perspectives. Participants leave equipped with greater confidence in public speaking, and improved research, writing, and collaboration skills.

    The social and academic skills embedded in Model UN make it a rich and engaging learning experience. Students are inherently excited to participate in this meaningful work and have fun while learning about the world and gaining skills for school, future work, and life!
