2017 Game Devs of Color Expo,

About the event

My team and I are putting together the 2017 Game Devs of Color Expo, an event that aims to highlight the work of developers of color and give them the opportunity to reach their target audience. Another goal of the event is to educate and encourage more people of color to create games. In 2016, we held a roundtable as well as an arcade.

In our day-long 2017 event, we want to hold panels, educational sessions, as well as an arcade. The panels will enable attendees to share and learn about experiences as game creators and game players from different backgrounds. The educational sessions will help people learn to make games. At the arcade, attendees will be able to play a selection of incredible games made by people of color.

With your help, we can hold an even larger event next year. We are planning to hold the event in New York City during Q2 of 2017 – our prospective dates are Saturdays between mid-May and mid-June.

Why should you sponsor?

The concept of race affects everyone, yet people often avoid discussing it. This is especially true within the context of games. Our expo is a great opportunity for companies to support new voices in the games community.

Catt Small

The Brooklyn Gamery was founded in 2013 by Catt Small, Chris Algoo, and Dennis Liaw. We make high-quality games and organize events in New York City. So far, we have organized over five events. Additionally, the team has ample experience organizing events for other groups including Different Games, Code Liberation, and General Assembly. Past sponsors of our events include GitHub, MailChimp, Etsy, and Microsoft.
