10th Anniversary Gala.. Honoring and Supporting Parents,

Russo's On the Bay, Queens, New York, United States Russo's On the Bay, Queens, New York, United States

  • About the event

Honoring and supporting parents of a child with Autism. Too often the parents or caregiver of a child with a disability is forgotten. We focus on the child with the disability with little or no acknowledgement to the parents.

Who is acknowledging the parents, who tireless give of themselves in raising their child with Autism or other disabilities. Our organization, My Time Inc takes pride in saying, "We do". This is  our 10th Anniversaryin this field of providing support, advocacy, education and recreational activities for these parents. We aim to make this gala very special for the parents. This is why we seek your support by cash donations or inkind.

They have a place where they know they are not alone and belong to a group of other parents who share their joys concerns, similarities or differences in raising their child to be embraced and acccepted in their community.

    Why should you sponsor?

You as a sponsor is showing that you acknowledge and empathize with these parents. You are saying to them " You are not alone and we hear your stories." We will support you.

In sponsoring this event you are helping My Time Inc provide these unique services such as recreational activies and advocacy training for the parents. You will not believe that some parents do not take time to go out with others, go to a movie or do something special for themselves or with other parents. Also. the  advocacy services can be very costly and most of the families cannot afford the assistance. Most of the families we  serve are considered low economic or underserved.

I am the cofounder of this organization. 10 years ago, I was intorduced to an amazing mom of a son diagnosed with Autism. Unfortunately that mom passed away while I was providing educational services to her son. This affected me drastically. there and then I knew I had to make a difference.  I had to create some kind of  support for these families. My husband and I decided to use our walk in apartment as a safe space  or haven for parents to come for solice, find support, encouragement and be empowered and mainly know they are not alone.

When you have a child with a disability, you tend to believe and think you are all alone. No one knows what you are going through. I believed I could change the mindset of these parents to be more positive and to know they are not alone and there are people out there who genuinely care.

Now we rent a small space in the community and acquire some grants. We definitely need our own space now. The monies recieved from the fundraiser allows us to better assist the parents, help us operate the program and develop a building fund.
