This past year, we have deeply transformed our daily lives in response to an unexpected global pandemic. There is another crisis to overcome: the environmental one. How can we learn from the on-going crisis to adapt to those of the future? What does the current crisis tell us about the resilience of our industries - especially our food and medical production systems? What does a sanitary crisis tell us about the complex links between our health and food? What is the relationship between our biological systems and how they can be used to improve health? This year's ICYA encourages you to explore the resilience and potential for change in our agricultural, food & biotechnological industries in regards to the past crisis as well as those we anticipate. All discussions will be designed to offer unique perspectives of the environmental, social and economic problems we face as the next generation of leaders in life sciences worldwide.
In order to reflect on this ambitious topic, the ICYA will be divided into two parts. The two first days will take place in the form of an online fair hosting both universities and companies on booths as well as proposing conferences through the days. Its aim is to allow international students to discover new bachelor, master or doctorate programs and job offers as well as allowing universities and companies from the life sciences field to exchange. The last two days will be constituted of trainings and workshops. The trainings will address topics such as personal branding or leadership. The workshops will be held in order to create a call for action regarding climate adaptation and sustainable agriculture.
The ICYA will be an eminent conference hosted by a professionnal online platform virtually locating the event at KU Leuven, Belgium in our headquarters. Furthermore, IAAS through its ICYA will allow you to:
Indeed, IAAS encourages its members worldwide to stand for:
IAAS is the biggest student organization in the field of agricultural and related sciences. It was established in 1957 by young people who strongly fostered hope for progress, peace and stability. At that time, students in the field of agriculture decided to come together and create a new international student organisation in Tunisia. Since then, IAAS aims: “to promote the exchange of experience, knowledge and ideas, and to improve the mutual understanding between students in the field of agriculture and related sciences all over the world”.
We carry out several projects to tackle food waste (#NoFoodWaste), inequalities between women and men in agriculture (#WomenInAgriculture) and to provide development aid in rural areas (#VillageConceptProject and #SocIAAS). Moreover, we organise educational events in which we spread soft skills through trainings and workshops. Those activities are meant to:
Indeed, we shape students to take an active role as leaders in their society, enter professional life with innovative ideas and contribute to a sustainable development in their field of activity.
