World Diabetes Day (Africa) 2017,

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

  • About the event

The conference aims to address the cross cutting themes of diabetes and obesity.

The disturbing thing is that many diabetics in Africa are unaware of their diabetes status.  Therefore clear statistics are difficult to compile. In South Africa alone, it is estimated that nearly 4 million South African adults have diabetes.  However as a result of unhealthy lifestyles leading to obesity and rapid urbanisation, the situation is expected to worsen.  The conference therefore also intends to emphasise the importance of a concerted public health and awareness programme, as well at early screening.

Under the theme “Tackling the Challenges of Diabetes & Obesity in Africa”, the Conference programme will be structured to give an over-view of the background to diabetes and obesity in Africa and then discuss the current situation and highlight the disturbing trends and outcomes if the problem is not given the level of seriousness it deserves from all stakeholders.

    Why should you sponsor?

Africa's mortality rate as a result of diabetes and related complications now ranks highest in the world.  It is therefore imperative for concerned stakeholders, i.e research scientists, diabetologists, diet and nutrition experts, policy researchers, physicians, pharmaceutical representatives and government to lend a hand in finding a solution to this situation.
