An event that express Afro Canadian culture on film, video and visual music with stories about and with BIPIOC peoples their individual and like-minded stories and expressions using film & video as a medium. Taking a fresh, new look at black cinema from all corners of the diaspora!
VBIFF is a dynamic, innovative and audacious festival whose ambition is to promote the development of the independent film industry and to showcase films on the realities of Black people from around the neighbourhood to around the globe. Investing in Afro Canadian artists working together in showcasing and celebrating our stories on the big screen. The VBIFF wants to deal with issues and change people perceptions with works that raise questions, that provoke, that make us smile, that celebrate our excellence, that shock us to the core…The need for a space to communicate with the community, visitors, tourists, face to face in this medium is long over due. Putting on such needed events in Vancouver, BC, encourage unity and a positive expression especialy amongst Black people and their perception in the community.
My background includes years of, presenting and organizing, including my current position and founder of my company Fade to Black Society and duties researching, presenting, mobilizing, and facilitating in Afro Canadian film and music arts and as an experience leader in presenting and running a non profit org. of and for visible minority Canadian culture in cinema, music, and television. My alma Mata Concordia University and Vancouver Film School, I gained interest and exposure to researching visible minority cultures(African) in film and music. I produced film and music events in Montreal & Vancouver; performed and showcasing talents across Canada/USA/Europe/Africa, curated film/video & music showcase; and become skilled in the use of technology such as, Eventive, Wordpress, Photoshop/ Final cut/Logic/ Pro-tools/ Excel/ FTP software, etc. to facilitate advertising, marketing, research, fund raising, websites, social media, etc. In each role, I earned commendations, grants, interviews, distribution; award’s for the quality of my research, including data collection, analysis and results interpretations. My academic credentials include studies at national & international Universities, invitations to film & music programs/festivals; tv/talk radio, which I spoke of the work(s) on culture, Urban developments. History, Afro futurism, interviews with celebrity to cultural movers and planners nationally and internationally include invites to SUNDANCE FESTIVAL, VIFF, TIFF, CANNS, British Black Film fest, Harlem Film Fest. Spain MECA, Poland short film fest,etc. Personally having lost my Kidney’s at an early age, I share in the mission to find donnor’s and spread awareness of this invisible disability. Working with Black youth of visible cultures, through media arts in Montreal & Vancouver. I want to continue contributing to research efforts furthering these important cause, and would welcome the chance to be sponsored by your company.
