Event Description
The Gate Code is a multimedia event with musical performances, visual art, and pop up shops during South by Southwest (SXSW) 2017 in Austin, Texas. The event theme draws on the community planning of suburban gated communities/neighborhoods across the United States. Each collaborator is part of a “room” in the “house” aka venue. This includes the following:
- “Room(s)” + Décor (Activation spaces)
- “Kitchen” (Food/beverage sponsorships
- “Living Room” (The concert/stage space)
- “Laundry Room” (Clothing pop ups)
- “Office/Den” (Exhibition space/open source information)
This year, South by Southwest (SXSW) is entering its 30th year as a festival. For sevaral years the festival has been one of the most influencial places for start ups, musicians, filmmakers, and sponsors to gain brand exposure. During the Music Week of SXSW (usually the third week of March) the city is booming with talents to see. From venues on 6th Street to some of Austin's most well known venues, there are shows going on everywhere. After a collective six years of the SXSW experience, we noticed a new, booming location trend for the festival: Rainey Street.
For sponsors at last year's SXSW, Rainey Street held some of the best, most beneficial showcases in a less congested part of the city. Being there, we noticed the amount of new organizations getting proper exposure to a target audience that was experiencing SXSW in a new area of town. This year we moved ahead of the curve to secure a venue on Rainy Street, as it is shaping up to be one of the busiest areas for SXSW 2017. As such, the Gate Code is being held at Javelina Bar. Along with location, we are working with When Where What ATX, one of the largest promotions companies in the Austin area. Coupled with location and this promotional reach we can guarantee the following target audience of ~500-1000 people (considering rolling attendance):
U.S. consumers born between 1981 and 2000
Currently between the ages of 18 and 34
93% are avid Internet users (compared to 88% of adults ages 35-54 and 42% of adults ages 55 and older)
Very comfortable with new technology and social media
