  • About the event

    The TEDxYouth@SunsetBeach Organizing Committee is preparing for its first conference with a focus on “The Changing World”. Our goal is to draw together inspiring and intellectual minds of our community through this theme. TEDxYouth@SunsetBeach has an audience of approximately 100 youth and adults. This event is a student-organized volunteer endeavor, and we do not make any profit from the event. It is currently scheduled on September 9, 2022 in Vancouver, Canada. 

    TED and TEDx sponsorship looks very different from the traditional sponsorship at a conference or event. At TED, we view our sponsors as partners who are joining us on a journey. This is a project that we’re investing in together. We see this as a collaborative relationship to be part of something meaningful that we can give back to our community: the TEDx event.

    For instance, TED and TEDx speakers tackle humanity's toughest questions, attempting to answer them with innovation, enterprise and enduring optimism. It is a place in our community that inspires people, especially youths, to change their lives, futures and, ultimately, the world. As seen in Bill Gates’s talk from 2015, how he warned that the world is not prepared for an epidemic, pandemic, or outbreak. This feels all too relevant with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Another example can be seen from Sal Khan’s talk about essentially how he could turn struggling students into scholars by helping them master concepts at their own pace. Which is a success with Khan Academy. 

    This year’s theme, The Changing World, mainly focuses on the truths and limitations in our world and how we can overcome them, in the eyes of youths. This event is mainly centered around youths and students in our community to be able to express themselves and their ideas as they might not have the chance to, and our value of “Ideas worth spreading” and the power of ideas.

    TED is a nonprofit organization that is devoted to expanding one’s circle and connecting with people around the world. Starting as a four-day conference in California back in 1984, its mission of “Ideas Worth Spreading” slowly brought together a myriad of exceptional minds, who went on to inspire millions of people in their various specialties. The TED conference is a yearly gathering of people from all walks of life, who believe in the power of ideas. Thinkers and storytellers explain their passion to a captivated audience, which is all recorded and conveniently made available for free online — extending their reach even further. TED Talks range in topics from the philosophy of happiness, to solutions to the global energy crisis, educational reform, financial literacy, and a plethora of other topics (visit www.ted.com to see more). Notable TED speakers include Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

    TED has established TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, independently organized TED-style events around the world, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

    As a not-for-profit event organized by student volunteers, TEDxYouth@SunsetBeach cannot happen without the help of supporting partners. By becoming a partner of TEDxYouth@SunsetBeach, YOU share our goal to inspire people to change the world. We seek both in-kind and  financial sponsorship, please read on the next page for our packages and options.

    In order to have a successful TEDx conference, we are asking for monetary or in-kind donations from businesses and organizations.     Our main goal for the partnership is to promote our event as many as possible in our community so we have the potential to influence and inspire others to join us. This is actually a funny story, but how I got the thought of organizing a TEDx event is not from searching “How to organize a TEDx event,” in fact, I didn’t even know that anybody can organize an event. Until last year, when I was inspired by one of the people that I know, who organized an event, and from that point on, I can really relate to the power of ideas and how we can inspire others to start their own conversation. 

    Our main goal is not only to spread ideas at our event in the duration of 1 day, but to also form a community based on this event so we can have success in future events. We want to inspire the ones at our event so they would tell their friends about the event, and start a chain reaction around our core values.
