Coos Bay, Oregon, United States Coos Bay, Oregon, United States

  • About the event

The Steve Prefontaine Festival of Miles is an event that plans to bring world class athletes to the hometown of Steve Prefontaine and change the lives of local children at the same time. We want to grow the love of the sport in Coos Bay and give shoes to the many kids who are in need. The event will be held on Saturday, August 10th, at Steve Prefontaine Track in Coos Bay Oregon. Races will begin at 6 P.M. with a youth 400 Meter run. Community mile races will proceed by ascending age, ending at around 8 P.M. with the main event – an elite mile race which would include world class athletes attempting to break the four-minute mile barrier. We plan to pay our world class athletes 8 deep with a total prize purse of $7,500 and a $2000 top prize. The first 10 athletes to commit to the race will also receive $500 for travel money. This event is all about putting bringing world class athletes to a small community, while giving shoes to those in need.

    Why should you sponsor?

Depending on the level of sponsorship we could include your company with the title of our event or the elite men’s heat. Such as The Steve Prefontaine Festival of Miles sponsored by _____, Or the _______ elite men's mile. Other ways to promote your compnay would  include being listed as sponsor on our web site with your logo and website link, the possibility of having your logo on our promotional products such as posters, videos, and tee-shirts, being listed as a sponsor in our event program, the opportunity to speak at the opening of the race, have promotional materials in our race packets, and special PA announcements mentioning your compnay throughout the event. We also plan to have at least our elite men’s heat streamed online which would allow the opportunity for huge exposure for a title sponsor. On top of all of this all of the proceeds will help give back to the local community by supplying local kids with shoes.

    Sawyer Heckard

I am a graduate of Marshfield High School in Coos Bay Oregon. I participated in both track and cross country while attending Marshfield High School. My sucess as a athlete stemed from our local hero Steve Prefontaine an American distance running legend who held American records from the 2000 meter race to the 10000 meter race. I want honor him by putting on a world class events with athletes who can break four in the mile barrier on a track named after him. At the same time I would be inspiring the next generation and helping those in need by giving shoes to local children.
