Dawn Kemper – Executive Director and Founder of Young at Heart
BS in Communications/Advertising from University of Illinois
As founder and executive director of Young at Heart Pet Rescue, I am first and foremost committed to the financial stability, growth, and future of Young at Heart Pet Rescue and are excited about reaching our goal to build the Midwest’s first adoption center and sanctuary for senior pets later this year in Woodstock, IL.
I began my career in Advertising, where I learned the art of branding and marketing, both of which I apply to the promotion of Young at Heart and its events. My love of animals called me back into the world of dogs and cats, and I now have over 20 years of experience in Animal Sheltering. My experience includes managing kennel staff, animal intakes and outcomes, animal care including training & behavioral issues, basic veterinary care, volunteer coordination, foster home coordination, fundraising and development, and public and donor relations.
I founded Young at Heart Senior Pet Rescue in response to the lack of resources for older pets in shelters. Older animals are often first in line to be euthanized in municipal shelters for no reason other than their age. I will be the first to tell you that a senior pet is the most special pet you will ever have in your life, and practice what I preach. I have six senior pets at home; 4 senior dogs and two senior cats. As one of the few organizations in the entire country that specializes in senior dogs AND cats, we have found a very important niche and because of that, our support base has grown steadily each year, and we are changing the landscape of what traditional shelters are doing with older pets in their care.
The businesses that support Young at Heart are supporting an organization that is using every resource to make the world a better place in our corner of animal welfare. I hope you will join us in our mission to provide senior dogs and cats with a safe haven to ensure they live with comfort, compassion, and companionship in their golden years.
