About the event

For many, “Boys Town” conjures up images of the handsome, charismatic Spencer Tracy, who portrayed Boys Town’s founder in the 1938 movie that earned the actor his second Oscar.

Too few people know that Father Flanagan’s work continues today, not only in Nebraska, but nationwide. Too few people know that Boys Town takes in girls as well as boys, or that the organization provides outreach services that help families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. And too few people know that we have a Boys Town village right here in Washington, D.C.

The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Boys Town. During the past 100 years, the organization has helped thousands upon thousands of boys and girls turn their lives around. Boys Town has also helped thousands of families heal, so that the children of Boys Town can return to loving, supportive environments.

We invite you to support Boys Town Washington DC by sponsoring the 2nd annual Racing for the Roses Gala.

It will be a great party! The elegant Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the District. We’ll enjoy an open bar including mint juleps, delicious food, live music, entertaining games and, of course, a hat contest—culminating in a live broadcast of the 143rd Kentucky Derby on two huge screens.

Why should you sponsor?

Boys Town not only saves lives, it also helps conserve public financial resources. Helping a 14-year-old to stay away from drugs, avoid criminal behavior and successfully graduate from high school ultimately saves taxpayers up to $3.75 million over that child’s lifetime. As Father Flanagan realized, to save the adult, one must first save the child.

​​​​​​Children and ​​​families in the nation’s capital have benefited from Boys Town Washington DC services since the site opened its doors in 1993.

Direct care services for children include four Family Homes in the District, and a Foster Family Services ^SM program that places children of all ages in safe homes in the community. The site also offers In-Home Family Services ^SM, and Community Support Services ^SM, which focus on providing Common Sense Parenting ^® classes that help parents expand and improve their child-rearing skills. These services and programs touch the lives of 6,200 children and families in the District of Columbia each year.

Boys Town has a long history of serving as an excellent steward of our donor support. Charity Navigator, one of the ​nation’s largest and most-respected charity rating systems, has awarded Boys Town its highest rating for the sound management of its finances. We are very strongly positioned to continue to save children and heal families in Washington DC.
