  • About the event

The Quilt Alliance, the only nonprofit solely dedicated to documenting,
preserving and sharing the history of quilts and quiltmakers, is seeking
sponsors to help us present our eighth Quilters Take Manhattan. This
quilter’s dream weekend in the Big Apple includes lectures, a quilt exhibition, vendor shopping, museum & garment district tours, even a scavenger hunt, all
anchored by our main event on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the
Fashion Institute of Technology, in the heart of the New York City
garment district. 2020 QTM Keynote Speaker Anna Maria Horner
will be joined by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, Julie Silber, and
    Jack Walsh.

    Why should you sponsor?

Meet new and existing customers--quilters--where they gather. Sponsors will be exposed to in-person event attendees as well as “Home Ticket” holders participating by mail and internet.

Add items to goody bags for all onsite and home attendees. Presenting-Silver sponsors can sell or demo new products or just meet and greet.

The Quilt Industry and Consumer Demographics

    • The annual industry value in terms of consumer spending is $3.7 billion,

    • There are an estimated 7 to 10 million quilters in the U.S.,

    • The total number of households with a quilter is 6 to 8.3 million and each quilting household spends an average of $442 annually – that’s a 48% increase over 2014.

    • “Dedicated Quilters” spend $500 or more a year on their art form and hobby. The average Dedicated Quilter is female, 63 years old, down by a year in age since 2014, and has been quilting for 19 years. She is well educated (70% attended college), and affluent (average household income of $95,900).

    • Finally, data showed that a younger group of Dedicated Quilters under the age of 45 are a rapidly growing segment of the quilting population. While this important group is often involved in quilting less due to time, work, and family constraints, they still devote an average of 10 hours a week to quilting. Quilters under 45 spend only 10% less than those of a higher age bracket, but do have a higher participation rate of time spent on quilting-related websites and online video viewing.

The Quilt Alliance is a 26-year-old 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1993 to document, preserve and share the rich history of American quilts and quiltmakers. We run the largest oral history project about quilters archived in the Library of Congress. This project, Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (QSOS) is a unique collection of over 1,100 grassroots interviews with quiltmakers, from professionals to hobbyists, spanning twenty years. We also produce the Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! video documentation project which allows quilt guilds and community groups to preserve their own local quilt history and contribute it to an international presentation on the Quilt Alliance YouTube channel. We serve as partners (with Michigan State University) on two other projects The Quilt Index and Quilt Treasures, both efforts to document, preserve and share the cultural heritage of quiltmaking.
