The Quidditch Premier League (QPL) is a ground-breaking development in the sport of Quidditch, with its inaugural season kicking off this May. Composing of 8 regional teams, the QPL will see the top-level athletes of the sport compete to become national champions this summer, with the Championship fixture held on Saturday 26th August in KCOM Craven Park Stadium, Hull. The Championship will mark the end of the QPL’s inaugural season, celebrating an elite standard of quidditch in a full day’s worth of matches.
The first UK quidditch tournament to be hosted in a professional sports stadium, the QPL’s championship will be a landmark occasion for the sport and its advancement, propelling quidditch’s movement from a Harry Potter fan activity to a high-impact, full contact sport in its own right. The QPL saw over 400 players try out for the league, with 240 selected to form eight teams across the UK. The teams are: The London Monarchs, Southwest Broadside, Southeast Knights, Eastern Mermaids, Northern Watch, Yorkshire Roses, East Midland Archers, and the West Midlands Revolution.
Players will be competing in the stadium with 12,225 capacity with full access to its pitch and facilities, and the public will be invited to spectate free of charge. The QPL’s first season has marked huge advancement in the sport, securing professional kits, partnerships and sponsorships, and managers for its players.
The Championship coincides with Hull’s status as City of Culture 2017, with the QPL sure to add to the array of events held within the city.
A rapidly growing sport, Quidditch has seen the emergence of a gender-inclusive, progressive sport The QPL’s impact on the sport of Quidditch has been unprecedented, both within the Quidditch community and in the external eyes of the Press. The media attention following the announcement of the QPL was phenomenal, featuring a live interview with our Director, Jack Lennard, on Sky news, and reaching US coverage on the Washington Post, Hollywood Reporter and The Conan O’Brien Show. With strong press relationships and an avid following from an international Quidditch community, sponsors would be sure to benefit from the attention the QPL would give them.
Thank you for your interest in supporting the QPL during our inaugural 2017 season. In the few months since launching, the QPL has received a staggering amount of interest from players, fans, and media, and we could not be more excited about what we can achieve here.
The sport of quidditch is growing incredibly quickly. Created only 11 years ago, the sport has developed to the point of having governing bodies and competitive teams on six continents. The extremely engaged community of fans and players, in person and offline, makes this possible, and brands that utilise the audience quidditch can provide are no strangers to the benefits that can bring.
If your brand wants to get involved in this very unique opportunity, the QPL is the place to start. Since announcing the league live on Sky News Sunrise, the global press has jumped at the chance to feature the QPL, and this has given us a reach beyond our wildest dreams. We are delighted at the chance to share the sport of quidditch worldwide with our global community, and would love to be able to share your brand with them as well.
I am, personally, more proud of the sport of quidditch than words will do justice to. The sport is constantly changing countless lives for the better across the world, providing an athletic and community opportunity that is unparalleled. The power of this community is the key to its engagement, and will be the key to your success as a brand should you partner with us.
