New York Hot Jazz Camp,

About the event

Our goal is to provide instruction to musicians of all skill levels, who want to further their knowledge in the styles of traditional/classic jazz in a positive and supportive environment. The curriculum pulls from jazz's inception in New Orleans through its journey to New York and Chicago in the 1920s and '30s and subsequent West Coast stylings. 

Students will be arranged into bands for the week to build a repertoire which they will perform at a reputable jazz club at the conclusion of camp.  Everyone will be encouraged and expected to improvise a solo at the final concert. Daily workshops will include discussions on topics such as improvising techniques, the history of jazz, stage presence/etiquette, how to organize your own band to perform, and how to get paid for it!

I moved to New York from Roseville CA in 2003 and have spent the majority of my career building a reputation as one of the most hard-working and reliable musicians on the scene.
