National SeaPerch Competition,

Maryland, United States Maryland, United States

  • About the event

Building a SeaPerch ROV teaches basic skills in ship and submarine design and encourages students to explore naval architecture and marine and ocean engineering principles. Students learn important engineering and design skills and are exposed to all the exciting careers that are possible in naval architecture and naval, ocean, and marine engineering.

Students learn best with hands-on activities. During the process of building a SeaPerch, they follow an established curriculum to completely assemble the ROV, test it, and then participate in launching their vehicles.
Students are encouraged to compete in a culminating event, the SeaPerch Challenge. Events at the Challenge can include:

    • Vehicle performance - maneuvering and recovery
    • Innovative design (optional)
    • Engineering Notebook submissions – Selected oral presentations to judges

Winners of regional SeaPerch Challenges may be able compete in the National SeaPerch Challenge, held each spring. A list of registered regional Challenges that are qualifiers for the National Challenge are posted on our website each fall.

    Why should you sponsor?

We are an extremely diverse group of team members that met together to achieve the goal of advancing to the SeaPerch  National Competition at the University of Marland. Our high school community is looked down upon because of a  stereotype claiming we aren't mentally capable,  but we believe that George Bush High school is filled with talented, brilliant young minds.  The funds that are donated will be used for plane tickets, competition fees, housing cost, and other travel expenses.  This money, although may seem a lot, isn't something the Fort Bend District can't do or hasn't done before. The support from our district, school, teachers, and fellow students is the perfect drive for us to continuously try to accomplish goals like this and polish the districts name. The example that our district is setting is impacting the people around us who ask for volunteer opportunities. One of our teammates' relatives volunteered a huge chunk of his time and devoted it to help us build the best ROV we can while teaching us about future skills you will face as an engineer. We are definitely participating in many other competitions in the upcoming school years not only because it enhances our view on a career of interest, but it provides a window to do better than last time and to experience the challenge with new people. We will be having other fundraising opportunities but if you decide to help us you're not only doing a deed for us but a deed for the betterment of our school. We feel blessed to have a chance to compete in this competition and definitely plan to bring home a nice, big trophy for representation of everyone's contribution towards success. Thank you for considering, from our team
