MATH CAMP 2018,

About the event

Worldwide, Mathematics is the first and the best subject that can be used to
introduce creativity and critical thinking among children starting from the age of
seven years old. Since 2013, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ang Miin Huey together with the
members of USM Mathematical Sciences Society have initiated Penang State
Mathematics Camp as one of theirs annual activities carried out with approval
from the Penang Education Ministry and with full sponsorship from USM.
The objectives of the Mathematics Camp are to start of the interest of
primary pupils in Mathematics besides training them to master High Order
thinking skills (HOTs) through solving natural occurring daily mathematical
problems (in accordance to school syllabus). The pupils’ creativity will be
unleashed through the production of own methods while solving mathematics
problems. In 2016, the Mathematics Camp had 98 participants from 20 schools
and in 2017, it had 74 participants from 19 schools.The Mathematics Camp 2018 is fixed on 17th March which is on the first Saturday
of the school holiday. The Mathematics Camp 2018 offers three topics:
1. Inclusion and Exclusion Problems
2. Pigeon Hole Principle Problems
3. Enumeration Method Problems
Totally there are four parallel teaching sessions in the Mathematics Camp where
all the three topics will be taught simultaneously.

Phooi Sean

I am Phooi Sean, third year student from USM, and studying Pure mathematics course in USM. CurrentlyI am one of the sponsorship members in Mathematics Camp. I have been in this department for 2 years continously. I am enjoy to join different kind of events and help those events to run, to raise fund and make the event successful and benefit to students and communities as well. I hope I can guide my members to experience the best and also build up the leadership themselves.
