Love Yourself First - a special event for women,

Maryland, Maryland, United States Maryland, Maryland, United States

  • About the event

My name is Monique Rainford and I am a medical doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology for the past eighteen years and currently living in Maryland, USA. I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School. I am dedicated to Women’s Health.  From that pivotal moment in medical school when I was involved in the life changing experience of delivering my first baby (although I did not realize it immediately) my career in women’s health was sealed.   I discovered that not only was I fascinated by the awesome privilege of helping women to deliver their babies but I also loved the privilege of discussing some on the most personal aspects of women’s lives while caring for them as a gynecologist. However I realized early in my journey that my commitment to women’s health extended beyond those moments in the office or in the delivery suite or operating room.  I wanted to be involved in giving women tools to help them to live their best lives.  I wanted to give them advice on achieving healthy happy lives and healthy loving relationships, the latter, which according to research from the Harvard Study of Adult Development, are integral to their health and wellbeing.   Also having been a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine since 2013 and recently being invited to the serve on the Board of Directors of the True Health Initiative, I am well versed in the other components of achieving a healthy happy life including a healthy diet, exercise and stress management.  To this end I have so far written two books, the first while I was living in Jamaica, The Maternal Glow – A Jamaican Woman’s Guide to Pregnancy which was focused on guiding women through pregnancy and the second Please God Send Me A Husband which I published after I returned to the United States, which focuses on giving women tools to find healthy loving relationships.   I regularly blog on issues related to women’s health and relationships and have appeared on television and radio and have had numerous public speaking appearances discussing relationship and health and wellness issues both nationally and internationally.

My special event Love Yourself First is designed with those goals in mind.  Healthy self-esteem, which can also be defined as healthy self-love, has been supported in the literature as an important ingredient to achieving healthy loving relationships.  Too often women’s lives consist of the sacrifices they make for their partner and their children at their own personal expense.  Self-care is integral to the happiness of women. How does that help society?  Happier healthier relationships has the potential of decreasing divorce rates, raising more successful children and has implications for not just improving our society for the present but for the future.   I am delighted to invite your company to be apart of this exciting journey, which is the first of what I hope to be a series of events throughout the United States.

    Why should you sponsor?

I recently published an Op-ed in the Baltimore Sun which I have attached below.   The message resonated strongly with many women and only intensified my desire to hold this very special event for  women which will have as its primary focus, self-care.
