CHRIS KELLY BIO…
Chris Kelly is an international concert and music festival promoter. He had a dream of being an entertainer and in 1980, he formed the vocal group, “Friction”, along with his brother and cousin. Friction performed all over the USA in what is considered “small markets” such as Paris, Tennessee. During this time, he was familiar with audio equipment and had the skills to book the shows in which they performed. He also did production for the group. This lured his interest in being an entrepreneur.
Chris was well received by people and after a year of performing, he decided to leave the stage and go into booking and producing shows. He started producing major events and stage plays, like the”70 Soul Jam” with the Dramatics and several other groups from the 70’s. The reunion of “The Floaters”, was another project, Chris put together successfully.
Chris loved to spin music when he wasn’t producing shows and he became one of the top Detroit DJ's from 1975 – 1990. This allowed him to spin in clubs and parties which won him several “Battle of the DJ” contest, in and around, the Detroit Metro Area. Thereafter, he realized the cultural value of live music.
In 1994, he was part of the team that engineered and gave birth to, the Ribs & Soul Festival at Hart Plaza, in downtown Detroit, Michigan. From 1995 until 2004, Chris held the positions as the Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager & Production Manager, at Chene Park Music Theater in Detroit Michigan. He also held the title of the Assistant Entertainment Coordinator for the City of Detroit where he assisted in booking, promoting, and producing, all the events for the City of Detroit. He designed the sound and lighting system for Chene Park Theatre; improving it every year as the budget permitted. He has worked with some of the largest productions on the circuit. With over two decades of buying music talent, promoting concerts, producing festivals and operating live music venues, he has deeply changed Detroit’s entertainment industry.
One of his other passions was being a DJ. In 2009, he became a radio personality on a growing internet radio station, “SVMIXRADIO,” with over 15,000,000 listeners worldwide. This aired on Tuesday’s at 8 P.M. EST. called, “The Chris Kelly Show”.
In 2016, He was driving down the street, where he spotted the site where his high school used to be in Inkster, Michigan, and is currently a grass filled lot. He decided he wanted to produce a music and rib festival to bring entertainment to a community wrought with blight and economic losses. That was the beginning of the free-to-the-public, “Inktown Music & Rib-Fest.” In 2017, Chris lost his son and grandson due to tragedy on the same day and the festival never went on. However, in 2018, Chris and his network plan on bringing the “Inktown Music & Rib-fest” back to life with the help of sponsors and community base donations.
Currently, Chris owns and operates C-One Entertainment, L.L.C. which focuses on concert promotions, consulting and production. He is the manager for R&B sensation Winzell Kelly of the Fabulous Dramatics for his solo project called, “Love Connection.”
