The Inaugural Black History Month Showcase will be an event that allows positive creative expression and sharing of ethnic diversities within the Black culture. Each artist who will be selected to participate in the showcase will be tasked with creating an original presentation based on a given theme, in honor of Black History Month. The significance of the original presentation is to showcase creativity in the interpretation of the theme, and highight the diverse ways that Black culture is understood. The showcase will be presented live and shared on our social media pages, which include Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. This event will give emerging creatives of various artforms the opportunity to gain public exposure and support throughout the Chicagoland area.

The Inaugural showcase is an event that targets young creatives ages 18-30. This demographic is one of the highest contributors to the economy. By sponsoring this event, your company logo will be displayed on flyers that will be passed out to local businesses throughout Chicagoland, posted on our social pages, website, and also within the Youtube Live Stream. This event is guaranteed to provide your company with a substantial amount of exposure to a relevant audiences of young families, professionals, and business owners.
My name is Allison Nelson, and I am the Co-Founder and Executive Director at BlackUP. I studied Human Services and completed my Bachelor's degree at National Louis University. I am very passionate about the growth and development of the Black community, especially considering the many societal systems that create barriers, which impact the success of minorities. Alongside leading the mission of this organization, I am an AmeriCorps worker for a youth development program located in Evanston, IL. Although this will be an inaugural event for BlackUP, I have over 4 years of prior experience working for businesses and organizations in which I helped coordinate events and fundraisers.
