Honey Groove is a music and art festival showcasing the artistic excellence of queer people of color. Not only does Honey Groove offer high-quality artistic entertainment, it provides a platform for talented artists who are not represented in mainstream media, a place for queer business to share their goods and services, and most importantly a safe space for queer people of color to celebrate each other. Honey Groove is as much a space of celebration as it is a space for affirmation. Only two years after its inception, Honey Groove is the largest festival of its kind on the East coast and has established its place as a home for queer cultural creation. Many of the 60+ artists and performers that have participated are award winners and have large, diverse audience bases, bringing their artistic merit to the festival.
Honey Groove will take place at Dock 5 on September 9th from 2-10pm and will be heaadlined by Big Freedia! The festival will feature 8 performing artists, 5 DJs, live painting, vendors, food trucks, 2,000 attendees, buttons and lots of twerking!
Honey Groove 2017 will feature local DC favorites BOOMscat, Be Steadwell, and The CooLots. They have been rocking with Honey Groove since the beginning and believed in the festival when it was just an idea and it’s great to bring them back this year. Carolyn Malachi is a huge addition to hold us down as our Ally and our Honey Groovers will love her! Atlanta-based, Danni Cassette will set the stage ablaze with her singing and energy. We will also have Baltimore based bands, Black Assets and Eat The Cake Band. Durand Bernarr will be another great addition, he is currently on tour with Erykah Badu and he “has the range!”
Big Freedia will be our headliner this year and her presence and energy will take Honey Groove to the next level. This will be our biggest, most explosive party.
We will have 5 DJs holding us down throughout the day. DJ Mim and DJ Jai Syncere will be our mainstage DJs while Baronhawk, Lady Ryan, and Ayes Cold hold down the indoor grooves.

I am the Producer and Curator of the Honey Groove festival, Kyrisha Deschamps. I has always believed that her career would impact others in positive ways. I strives to create spaces for queer people to enjoy all aspects of art and captivating experiences, which led to the creation of the Honey Groove Festival. After two successful priductions, we are going lauching ourselves into position to become the premier event on the East Coast for LGBTQ artsits and attendees.
