About the event
A hackathon is a sports tournament for the tech-savvy. Hackathons usually consist of 12-36 hour events where participants form teams, program, and create a project of their choice. The projects can range from fun mobile games to lifesaving applications. Participants are also able to attend workshops to grow their skill set as well as their network. The hackers then present their projects to judges and various winners are selected.
HackIR was founded in 2016 by senior students at Iroquois Ridge High School in the hopes of promoting STEM throughout Oakville. It is a 12-hour event that includes numerous workshops for new programmers to learn more about coding in order to assist them in creating a project. It is less focused on the competition than the ability to spread knowledge of the vital 21st-century skill: programming.
We have been apart of the Major League Hacking Local Hack Day for two years and this year is no exception. We are projecting to have 150 participants from around the GTA, with students ranging from ages 12-18; we hope to encapsulate the interest of both experienced and new programmers.
Why should you sponsor?
The organizing team at HackIR believes that when seeking sponsorship, the agreement should be beneficial for both HackIR and the sponsor. We understand that sponsors are looking for opportunities to engage with the community, spread brand awareness, and attract a larger customer base. Thus, we will only ever reach out to sponsors who are likely to see our audience as a demographic that they would like to reach out to.
Should your company choose to sponsor HackIR, your company will have the opportunity to promote and advertise to 150+ high school students from all over Oakville and the Greater Toronto Area. Your company’s logo will be put on our website, t-shirt, as well as our banner. In addition, we will give your company a shout out on social media and allow your company to participate in judging. The details regarding the benefits will depend on the sponsorship tier your company chooses.
The support provided by your company will help us create a safe, fun, and educational environment for our attendees. We will be spending the money on security, food for participants, promotion, and prizes to be awarded to the winners.
Hello, my name is Ayush Warikoo and I am a grade 12 student at Iroquis Ridge High School. I love to get involved in my community and school, which is why I was a member of Junior Civitan for 2 years and am currently part of the executive team for IRHS DECA, Student Voice and HackIR. Some of my interests include chess, finance and competitive programming. I wanted to help run my school's local Hackathon, HackIR, because I enjoy programming and wanted to give other students the opportunity to explore it as well. Hope you will consider sponsoring our event.
