About the event
Edinburgh University Debates Union is delighted to host our annual Edinburgh Cup, the traditional recommencement of the British university debating calendar for the academic year.
This competition has always been exceptionally strong in quality, with fantastic speakers, brilliant judges, and a strong pool of volunteers ensuring everything runs to time – and this year is no different!Why should you sponsor?
The event attracts the most bright and brilliant undergraduate and postgraduate university students across the UK, Ireland, and Europe to attend. This creates an excellent opportunity for firms to pitch their company and any graduate recruitment programmes they may have to students equipped with the relevant skills and confidence to join your form.
The competition allows students to develop their confidence, public speaking skills, as well as knowledge in fields such as law, economics, international relations, and sciences. We believe that this is a fantastic opportunity for students, and your generous sponsorship will allow us to ensure the competition runs smoothly.
Anita CarrollEdinburgh University Debates Union is a union committed to promoting political engagement and social discourse across Britain. The Union has over 180 members and convenes thrice a week for debate training. Our members debate competitively across the UK and Europe, which the Union works hard to try to subsidise. We hold the Edinburgh Cup (October), an inter-university competition, annually and two debating competitions for children: Edinburgh Juniors (November), and Edinburgh Schools (March). EUDU also holds regular public events on topical issues, organises training days specifically for state schools, and often travels across Britain to help judge debating competitions at schools.

We will gladly accept donations of any non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic beverages would be served throughout the tournament, whilst alcoholic beverages would be served during the Social on Saturday 14th October. We will ensure that participants are made aware of our generous drink sponsors.

(1) Platform at EUDU Meetings: The Union convenes thrice a week for training and workshops, with an average attendance of 50 people. We are happy to distribute leaflets about your firm or invite your staff to speak to our members during these meetings. Sponsors in the past have attended our weekly meetings to promote their graduate programmes to our students. (2) Promotion at Competitions and Public Events: EUDU always makes sure to announce and thank our sponsors during our competitions. Your contribution would be announced on the Event Page for all participants to see, as well as announced at the beginning of the tournament.

In addition to Bronze Package benefits, Silver Package sponsors will receive (3) Platforms at Debating Competitions and Public Events: We think it is important that our sponsors are given a platform to speak at the event they are sponsoring, as well as other public events and competitions we host. This also provides the perfect opportunity to promote your firm to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are equipped with the relevant skills for any graduate or internship programmes for which you may be recruiting . (4) Internet Publicity: The names of our sponsors and their details will be published on the EUDU website. This information will also be published on our Facebook group (882 members), Facebook page (923 likes), Twitter account (779 followers), Instagram page (67 followers), and weekly newsletter (reaches 1,182 people). We are happy to provide these forums to promote any of your firm's events, initiatives, or job openings. Sponsors will also be able to use our logo and name in their own advertising.

In addition to Silver Package benefits, Gold Package sponsors will receive (5) Title Sponsor: Your / your firm's name will be a part of the official name of the event, e.g. 'The Edinburgh Cup, in association with [your firm]'. (6) Merchandise: The names of our sponsors will be embossed on EUDU merchandise. This merchandise will be worn to all competitions that members take part in. Our members compete across the UK and have also debated in Budapest, Paris, Ireland, Estonia, Krakow, Warsaw, Zagreb, and Melbourne. This will ensure that the name of you / your firm will be far reaching. (7) Participation in Public Events and Competitions: We welcome all of your staff to attend our public events for free (non-EUDU members would usually be charged). We would also gladly hold a public event on any issue your firm feels strongly about, and would welcome a representative of your firm to speak at the event. Our public events often have over 250 people attending. (8) Offering our Expertise: We would be happy to send our members to your firm to run public speaking skills workshops should they be needed. Our exceptional debaters (past European champions) are trained in public speaking, presentational skills, and encouraging nervous speakers.
