About the event

Welcome to the 2019 instalment of the Dundee Service Jam, Our 7th year and 10th time jamming! The Dundee Service Jam is one of over 100 ‘jams’ taking place across the world in the last weekend of March, as part of the Global Service Jam movement. #GSJam

The jam exists both locally and globally as we virtually connect with jams in other cities. At a jam, a mix of individuals come together and share their skills, expertise and intuition around the secret theme. Going through the design process you will then develop and prototype new products and services in response to the theme. Anyone is welcome from any background with no prior experience needed – the weekend is about demonstrating to you your own ability to use design to enable change.

We provide a flexible venue, sustenance, excellent mentors, a welcoming atmosphere and all the tools, methods and knowledge you need to unleash your creativity and apply it to social change. You'll go through the design process multiple times learning many new methods, exploring social issues and involving the public at every stage.

The Dundee Service Jam is one of over 100 design jams across the world offering exposure to a local and global audience. We have 50 people taking part from both locally in Dundee and people traveling from as far as London to deliver a quality introduction to service design methods. We connect with multiple international cities throughout the weekend exposing each other to foreign ideas and approaches. We have a strong twitter presence that we’re happy to use to promote and thank any sponsors. The jam is a voluntary not for profit event that takes place each year and without sponsorship it can’t be delivered at the standard we love to deliver it at.

I’m a 4th year Interior Environmental Design Student at DJCAD in Dundee and have been the lead organiser for the past 3 years. Service design and engaging people through thee jam has been a passion of mine since I threw myself in as an organiser in 2017 and successfully organised the biggest jam in the world that year. I’ve managed to bring a passionate and strong team together of students, creatives, social entrepreneurs and more all promising to deliver a world class event.
