Diversity within emergency medicine,

Iceland Iceland

  • About the event

I am a Paramedic for a Fire Department in the US. I have started a journey to travel to as many countries as possible, with hopes to improve emergency medical systems globally. I plan on doing this, by in depth documentation of EMS systems around the world, study and documenting their operations, techniques and every other aspect. The plan is to then, document my findings on my website travel-medic.org. Theoretically, this will improve quality of patient care, ambulance response times, emergency care available to citizens and other important factors. This will be done by localizing my information onto my website into an easily accessible data base for others to utilize. The information can be used for quality improvement, techniques, medication effectiveness and other major aspects of Emergency Medicine. My final objective is diversity within EMS around the world.

My quest started after a recent backpacking trip to Iceland. I visited a firehouse there, and thought to myself, “wow this is cool, I bet we could do this where I’m from”. I’m not requesting any “handouts” from your organization, nor financial support. I’m seeking your time. I need support for this quest and to have support from everyone, and every company, out there. My dream isn’t a cheap one, and on a paramedic salary, it’s a burden to my budget. I will continue to achieve this goal though, even if my time, money and work only impact one life. The value of saving just one life, is worth all the money in the world.

My current travel plan is to 10 European countries (Starting in Denmark). I will drive to attached countries and visit as many departments possible, returning to Denmark at the end.

    Why should you sponsor?

A sponsor will be able to directly contribute to the actions of saving a life. No matter how large, or small, the amount is, my work will go towards benefiting everyone. The burdens of transport (airfare and vehicle rental), along with day-to-day living, are tough. Therefore, I’m seeking to get my name out there. This dream isn’t, and won’t ever be, about monetary gain. Just like any other thing in life, this will take hard work to build up too. I’m concerned that, if I don’t get any support for this (help with airfare, car rental, accommodation, etc.), this may end as just a dream.

I am a 21 year old Paramedic from the United States. My number one goal is to support others, and do what I can to help. That is why this journey isnt about monetary gain. The end result is just to improve others lives. Its taking alot of effort to get this started. I am not seeking financial support neccesarily. I am seeking donations from room rentals, vehicle etc.
