Club Sandwich,

Hackney House, London, England, United Kingdom Hackney House, London, England, United Kingdom

  • About the event

Club Sandwich is a networking party for the tech/entrepreneurship/startup scene - It was created to change the way networking events are held.

We believe that networking should be about making friends and meeting people with common and passionate interests rather than awkward environments with name badges and people trying to explain what they can do for a business.

The idea is to get amazing people in the tech/startup/entrepreneurship scene together and have fun. We have DJ’s, showcasing the latest music-tech entertainment acts & beer pong. When people have fun, they make connections a lot more easily. We think there is a better way to build networks.

Music-tech act confirmed for next event: Chagall showcasing the MiMu gloves. http://mimugloves.com/

When I finished my web development course, I knew I wanted to start my own business and therefore I thought the best way to get started was to go to events and meet as many people as possible. I quickly grew tired of the forced environments that happen networking events tend - making a genuine connection was very rare as people can be awkward when they are forced to socialise. I really just thought there was a better way to make connections

After complaining to my mentor at the time several times, he finally just went ‘Why don’t you just start your own event then?’ And so I did - 2 weeks after that meeting, Club Sandwich was born. I had 20 people in a section of a bar with a load of table football machines. Since I had the first event in April 2016, the event has grown rapidly to my last event at the end of 2016 which saw just under 250 people attend. I strongly encourage you to watch the video to get a taste of what went on during the evening.

Through networking I got the word out into several vetted communities to maintain a high quality of attendee (Barclays Accelerator, The Collective, Makers Academy, The Old Truman Brewery).

I strongly believe that when people are relaxed and having fun, the quality of networking becomes so much higher and therefore much more useful.
