A smart city can be defined as a city which is equipped with basic infrastructure needed to provide a decent quality of life. A city made more efficient with the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics. In a smart city, citizens can engage effectively with their local government by way of e-participation.
Learning, adapting, innovating, and responding effectively and promptly to changing circumstances are some of the key points to the development of a smart city.
Smart cities should provide smart infrastructure, smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living, and smart governance.
The Government of India launched a Smart Cities project in 2015. It is a US15 Billion Dollar (Rs.98,000 Crore) project that has a mission of urban renewal and retrofitting program to develop 109 cities all over the country, making them citizen-friendly and sustainable.
Chennai is one of the cities that has been selected from the list of 109 smart cities under the Urban Development Ministry’s Smart City Mission.
