ASSthetics: A Case for Reclamation,

Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, United States Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, United States

  • About the event

At a place like Northwestern, where being of a marginalized identity automatically defines you and your existence as “excess,” our Burlesque show aims to be a space where POC can more wholly be themselves. “Living in Color presents Assthetics: A Case for Reclamation” is a space for affirmation and body positivity, while navigating life as a poc (where our bodies are simultaneously put on display and degraded). Our name falls along the line of this thinking and fits in with the core ideal that started the tradition of Burlesque in Chicago: while we are putting our bodies and sexuality on display, we control our own narrative. We control who touches us, what we exhibit and how we want to be depicted. While promoting body and sex positivity, we reclaim our bodies and our aesthetics. Self love can sometimes be the most radical thing you can do as a person of color

    Why should you sponsor?

The benefits from sponsoring our show will include the promotion of your service through program ads. We hope that you will help our organization spread body positivity and awareness throughout our campus.
