    Abstract

Mentorship program is vital towards proper development of adolescent girls; socially. spiritually, academically and economically they should be empowered with ideas and knowledge. This vital program is scarce in rural Kenya and as a result of scarcity, many girls’ after completion of their A or O level education decide to either move to urban cities in search of greener pastures. this has led to new trends in crime where recently the country has seen a greater increase in girls’ criminal gang in the city, their vulnerability is exposed, some also, may decide to engage in prostitution and indulgence in substance abuse which leads to STI’s and early unplanned pregnancies. The remedy to this is to invite different mentors who can walk with these vulnerable girls through their lives and advise them and introduce an entrepreneurial culture in them. This will also make them acquire some traits from their mentor like being a leader in life and a go-getter person. The leadership skills that will be acquired will also make these girls engage in governance in school and in the community.

    Background of the Problem

We noted that, an idle adolescent girl is vulnerable, many don’t finish their eighth grade in rural Kenya due to early pregnancies, ST I's and indulgence in drugs due to peer pressure. Most of these activities are done when schools are closed. Therefore, the need to have a place where they can not only relax, but share ideas, socialize and engage in sports is crucial. Per the united nations (UN) report in developing countries 87% of girls enroll in primary schools but only 39% finish lower secondary.

Building a culture of women in leadership is understood should start early in a girls’ life.

Most youth especially those in rural lack Mentors and career guiders and we believe it is the recipe for poor career choice and lack of leadership skills, making them dependent on others a recipe for bad moral behaviors like prostitution, which leads to early pregnancies and diseases.

    Our target group

We are targeting adolescent girls in High school within the sub-county. Our target number is approximately 500 high school going girls.

    Expected outcome

    1. Increase in the number of girls participation in leadership and governance in schools and community
    2. Reduce the number of girls dropout cases in schools within the Butere Sub-County
    3. Increased interest in STEM subjects in schools among girls
    4. Embrace the importance of networking, Financial Management and entrepreneurship

    Short Term Goals

    • Our short term strategy is to provide mentorship and career guidance in schools especially when the schools are in sessions to advocate on career choice, women and girl rights

    Long Term Goals
